The best eSIM for Canada (2026): prices and coverage
Canada is one of those destinations where it’s easy to get a nasty surprise on your bill: it’s outside the European Union and Europe’s roam-like-at-home rules don’t apply there, so many Spanish tariffs charge for roaming separately. A data eSIM bought before you leave solves the problem with a fixed price in euros. In this guide you’ll find Roam2Go’s real prices, which GB allowance suits a trip of one to three weeks and what to expect from coverage once you leave the cities.
Why Canada isn’t covered by roam-like-at-home
The European rules that let you use your data in France or Italy as if you were at home cover the EU and little else. Canada falls outside them, and every operator applies its own conditions there: some sell daily bundles, others charge per megabyte and others simply don’t offer data at all. It’s worth checking with your provider before you fly, if only to know what happens if you leave your phone connected by mistake.
With an eSIM for Canada you know what you’re paying before you go: you buy online, install the profile over wifi and arrive with your phone ready to go. No deposits, no contracts and no queues at the airport.
How much data you need in Canada
Usage depends a lot on how you travel, but there’s a clear pattern: in Canada you cover a lot of miles, and maps, accommodation bookings and last-minute searches weigh more heavily than on a European city break.
Short city break (3-7 days)
For a long weekend in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver, with wifi at the hotel and normal use of maps, messaging and social media, 3 GB for 7 days (€6.95) is usually enough. If you plan to use your phone as your only navigation tool and watch videos along the way, 10 GB for 7 days (€12.77) gives you far more room.
Two weeks combining city and nature (10-15 days)
Here the 10 to 20-day range works well. 10 GB for 20 days (€14.99) covers a Vancouver–Rockies–Calgary style itinerary with daily navigation, photos in the cloud and the odd video call home. If you’re a light user and always sleep somewhere with wifi, 5 GB for 15 days (€12.99) may be enough.
Three weeks or a month (long road trip)
For trips of three weeks or more, the natural choice is 10 GB for 30 days (€15.95). Always pick a duration equal to or longer than your trip: it’s more convenient than running out halfway through your itinerary.

The product page has more data and duration combinations. If you’d rather not count megabytes, there are also unlimited durations of 3, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days: each day includes a high-speed data allowance for browsing, using maps and messaging and watching videos, and if you use it up on a given day you stay connected at reduced speed —enough for messaging, email and maps— until the allowance renews the next day. The connection isn’t cut off.
If you want to decide quickly and read no further:

- Three weeks or a month: 10 GB / 30 days for €15.95.

Coverage: cities, highways and national parks
In the big cities and in populated areas the connection usually works normally and you can carry on your digital life as at home. The important caveat is the size of the country: on long stretches of highway, inside national parks, in mountain areas and up north, mobile coverage can be limited or simply non-existent, and that applies to any operator and any SIM, including local ones.
That’s why the practical advice isn’t to look for the eSIM that reaches everywhere, but to prepare: download offline maps of the area and your route, save your bookings and tickets to your phone, tell someone your itinerary if you’re doing remote stretches, and don’t count on finding a signal to sort out a problem in the middle of a park. When you pass through a town or a service area again, your phone will latch back onto the network by itself.
Calls, texts and WhatsApp
The plans for Canada are data-only: they don’t come with a Canadian phone number. In practice, that’s not a problem for most travellers, because WhatsApp, Telegram, FaceTime or Zoom work using the eSIM’s data and your usual number. You’ll be able to call and message home just as you always do.
If you need to receive conventional calls or texts (bank verification codes, for example), you’ll need your regular line active. As Canada is outside the EU, your provider’s voice and SMS roaming is usually switched off by default and you have to request it if you want it; and if you have it enabled, you may be charged both for the calls you make and the ones you receive, as well as for texts. Check with your provider before you go.
The recommended set-up is simple: data always through the eSIM, and your usual line only for voice and texts, with its data roaming switched off.
How to get it ready before you fly
Install the profile over wifi at home, a few days before your flight. It takes a couple of minutes and it’s explained step by step in our guides for iPhone and Android. Also check that your phone supports eSIM and isn’t locked to an operator.
When you land, turn on the eSIM’s data and let your phone search for a network; plans usually start counting from the first connection in the country, so you don’t lose days by installing it beforehand. You can now buy your eSIM for Canada and stop worrying about roaming.
