How many gigabytes do you need?

As a guide only: your own use may differ, and your phone’s settings show how much mobile data you used last month.

  • Maps, messaging and email: these use little data. 1 to 3 GB usually covers a week.
  • Social media with photos and some video: 5 to 10 GB for a week is a common range.
  • Video streaming or video calls on most days: 20 GB or more, or an unlimited plan.

Examples from the table, by length of trip:

  • A week: 3 GB for 30 days (€4.99).
  • Two weeks: 5 GB for 30 days (€6.50).
  • A month: 10 GB for 30 days (€7.95), or 20 GB for 30 days (€13.50) if you use more.

Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui and Chiang Mai: one eSIM

Roam2Go eSIMs are sold by country or by region, not by city: all the plans in the table are plans for Thailand, and there is none just for Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui or Chiang Mai. If your trip takes in several cities or islands, choose one plan with the days and the data for the whole trip, rather than one plan for each stop. As with any phone, the signal depends on the network in each place.

Visiting more than one country? There are also eSIMs for Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Vietnam, and the Asia eSIM is valid in 18 destinations, including Thailand and these four countries, with a single purchase. If you are only combining Thailand with Malaysia and Singapore, the Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand eSIM is valid in all 3 countries with a single purchase.

What about roaming with your home plan?

The EU “roam like at home” rule applies in the EU countries, in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and in Moldova and Ukraine. Thailand is not covered, and the European Commission warns that roaming outside the EU/EEA, data roaming in particular, can be expensive. Wherever your SIM is from, what you pay to roam in Thailand is set by your own operator, so check it before you leave. With a prepaid eSIM you know what you will pay before you travel.

How the eSIM works: installation and validity

  1. At home: check that your phone supports eSIM (there is a device check on the product page) and that it is not locked to an operator, buy the plan and install the eSIM over Wi-Fi. The instructions arrive by email.
  2. Validity: it starts the first time the eSIM connects to a network in Thailand, not when you install it.
  3. Data roaming on the eSIM: switch it on before you go. It is only a setting, and on the eSIM it costs nothing extra.
  4. When you arrive: choose the eSIM line for mobile data. If it is not online after a couple of minutes, restart the phone.
  5. Your usual SIM: turn data roaming off on that line. If you want to receive calls and texts on it, keep it active, but in Thailand call and text roaming on that line usually comes switched off (you have to ask your operator to turn it on) and, if you have it, your operator can charge you for calls you make, calls you receive and texts.

You can call home through WhatsApp or another app, using the eSIM’s data and keeping your usual number: these plans are data only.

Refunds, top-ups and the other conditions are in the terms and conditions.

Frequently asked questions

How much is an eSIM data plan for Thailand?+
At Roam2Go, fixed data plans for Thailand start at €2.50 (1 GB, 7 days). A plan with 3 GB for 30 days costs €4.99, one with 20 GB for 30 days costs €13.50 and one with 10 GB for 30 days costs €7.95, VAT included. Prices checked on 17 October 2026; the product page shows the current ones.
What is the best eSIM plan for a week in Thailand?+
It depends on how you use your phone. For a week of maps, messaging and some social media, 3 GB for 30 days (€4.99) is a reasonable fit. If you only need maps and messaging, 1 GB for 7 days (€2.50) can be enough. If you watch video on most days, look at 20 GB for 30 days (€13.50) or at the unlimited plans on the product page.
When does the validity of the eSIM start?+
The first time it connects to a network in Thailand, not when you install it: on the plan with 3 GB for 30 days, for example, the 30 days count from that moment. You can install it at home, over Wi-Fi, days before your trip.
Can I use the plan’s data on a laptop or another device?+
According to each plan’s details, the fixed data plans for Thailand allow it: what the other device uses comes out of your plan’s data. It also depends on your phone and on the network. Any condition specific to a plan is shown on the product page and in the terms and conditions.
Can I add more data if I run out?+
Yes, by buying another plan. On plans that support top-ups, the new plan is loaded onto the eSIM you already have, and before paying you see when it starts and what happens to the data you have left. On the others, you buy a new plan and install a new eSIM.
Can I get a refund?+
You have 30 days from purchase to ask for a full refund if you have not used the eSIM (it has not connected to a network or used any data), even if you have already installed it. If it does not connect at your destination, we find a solution or give you your money back. Any other case is looked at individually: write to us.
